Debco Bag Recalls Ceramic Mugs Due to Burn and Laceration Hazards

Summary

Debco Bag is recalling about 150 Tonal Thirst 12-ounce ceramic mugs because the handles can break during use. This defect poses a risk of burns if the mug contains hot liquid, or lacerations from broken ceramic. One report of a burn injury has already been received. These two-tone mugs have a white exterior and were sold in four interior/handle color combinations: black, blue, lime green, and red between August 2015 and April 2016. Consumers should immediately stop using these mugs and contact the company for a replacement.

Risk

The ceramic handle can unexpectedly snap or break off from the body of the mug. If the mug is filled with hot liquid when the handle breaks, it can spill and cause burns, or the broken ceramic edges can cause cuts.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the recalled 12-ounce Tonal Thirst ceramic mugs.
  2. Identify the affected products by looking for 12-ounce mugs with a glossy white exterior and a colored interior (black, blue, lime green, or red) with a matching colored handle. Note that some mugs may have promotional logos printed on the white exterior.
