Brookside Brand Beef and Pork Wieners Recalled for Undeclared Soy and Pork

Summary

Dearborn Sausage Company, Inc. is recalling approximately 1,944 pounds of ready-to-eat Brookside Brand wieners because the labels on two different products were accidentally swapped. This mistake means that some beef wieners containing soy were labeled as a beef and pork blend, while some beef and pork wieners were labeled as pure beef. As a result, consumers may unknowingly eat soy or pork that is not listed on the package label.

Risk

The labels failed to declare soy, a known allergen, and pork, posing a serious health risk to individuals with soy allergies or those who avoid pork for dietary or religious reasons. No adverse reactions have been reported to date.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your Brookside Brand Wieners for the following identifiers: Beef Wieners in 2-lb. packages with lot code A0122024 and sell by date 11/05/2024, or Natural Casing Wieners in 2-lb. packages with lot code A0322024 and sell by date 11/05/2024.
  2. Look for the establishment number 'EST. 10002' inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product packaging.
  3. Return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund, throw it away, or contact the manufacturer for further instructions.
  4. If you have questions about the recall, contact Chase McQuiston, FSQA Manager at Dearborn Sausage Company, Inc., at 313-842-2375, ext. 3052.
  5. Call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-674-6854 for additional food safety questions.
