Summary

Harley-Davidson is recalling approximately 46,923 of its 2024 motorcycles, including models FLHX, FLHXSE, FLTRX, FLTRXSE, and FLTRXSTSE. A wire in the voltage regulator can rub against the crankcase, which may wear down the insulation and cause an electrical short circuit. This defect can lead to a sudden loss of electrical and engine power while riding, and a free repair is available through authorized dealers.

Risk

A short circuit can cause the motorcycle to lose drive power unexpectedly while in motion, which significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your motorcycle is affected by checking your model name against the list of 2024 models: FLHX, FLHXSE, FLTRX, FLTRXSE, or FLTRXSTSE.
  2. Contact an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer to schedule a service appointment for a free inspection and repair.
  3. During the repair, dealers will fix the voltage regulator wire harness if damage is found and install a secondary retention strap to prevent future rubbing.
  4. You may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464 and mention recall number 0186 for more information.
  5. For additional questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
