Summary

BMW of North America is recalling 1,571 vehicles, including certain 2025-2026 BMW X1, BMW X2, and several MINI Cooper and Countryman models. The torsion bar within the front seat belt retractors may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. If damaged, the seat belt may not properly restrain the driver or front passenger during a collision, which increases the risk of injury. Authorized dealers will replace both front seat belt retractors at no cost to owners.

Risk

The damaged internal components of the seat belt retractor can fail to lock correctly during a crash, preventing the seat belt from holding the occupant securely in their seat.
