Summary

Continental Automotive Systems is recalling 1,420 Electric Brake System (EBS) modules, model number MK100, because internal valves may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. This damage can lead to an internal brake fluid leak, which may result in longer brake pedal travel or unexpected vehicle movement while the 'Auto Hold' feature is active. The remedy program for affected vehicles will be managed and provided for free by the individual vehicle manufacturers that installed these modules.

Risk

A leak inside the brake module can cause the brake pedal to feel loose or travel further than expected to stop the vehicle. Additionally, it could cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly while in 'Auto Hold' mode, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle contains the affected Continental Automotive Systems MK100 Electric Brake System (EBS) module by contacting your vehicle's manufacturer or checking for recall notices from them.
  2. If your vehicle is part of this recall, follow the specific instructions provided by your vehicle manufacturer regarding repair or replacement of the brake module.
  3. Contact your vehicle manufacturer's customer service department to confirm the remedy schedule and ensure the repair will be performed free of charge.
  4. For additional information or to check your vehicle's VIN, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
