Summary

Altec Industries is recalling approximately 1,128 of its 2020-2024 LR7 and LR8 aerial devices. A hydraulic cylinder feeder tube located near the cylinder rest bracket may become damaged over time, leading to oil leaks. This failure can cause the boom to move uncontrollably during operation, posing a significant safety hazard to workers and bystanders. Altec will provide a free repair that includes replacing the cylinder rest pad and the feeder tube if necessary.

Risk

A damaged feeder tube can leak hydraulic oil, which may result in a loss of pressure and uncontrolled movement of the boom. This unexpected movement increases the risk of serious injury to individuals working on or near the aerial device.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your equipment to see if you have a 2020-2024 Altec LR7 or LR8 aerial device.
  2. Identify your vehicle's specific recall status by contacting Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 and referencing recall number CSN-3142 or CSN-3159.
  3. Contact an authorized Altec service center to schedule a free repair, which will involve replacing the cylinder rest pad and inspecting/replacing the hydraulic feeder tube.
  4. Wait for your official owner notification letter, which Altec expects to mail around July 22, 2024, for further details on the repair process.
  5. For additional questions or to report safety concerns, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
