Airstream, Inc.: Basecamp, Bambi, Atlas, and Interstate Travel Trailers Recalled for Gas Leak

Summary

Airstream, Inc. is recalling approximately 2,856 of its 2021-2022 Basecamp, Bambi, Atlas, Interstate, and Interstate 19 travel trailers. These vehicles are equipped with certain 2-burner cooktops where the burner control valves may become damaged, leading to a hazardous gas leak. Dealers will inspect these cooktops and replace them free of charge if any damage is found.

Risk

A gas leak in the presence of an ignition source can cause a fire, posing a significant safety risk to occupants. While 114 units are estimated to have the defect, any leak inside the confined space of a travel trailer increases the danger of fire or explosion.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your travel trailer is affected by checking the model year (2021-2022) and model name: Basecamp, Bambi, Atlas, Interstate, or Interstate 19.
  2. Locate the 2-burner cooktop inside your trailer to prepare for dealer inspection.
  3. Contact an authorized Airstream dealer to schedule a free inspection and, if necessary, a replacement of the cooktop unit.
  4. For further information or assistance, contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 (extensions 7401 or 7411).
  5. For additional questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
