Summary

Cycling Sports Group is recalling about 1,270 Cannondale Canvas NEO electric assist bicycles (e-bikes) because the front fender can detach and cause the wheel to stop suddenly. This defect has already led to eight reports of fenders detaching, resulting in at least two injuries involving abrasions and bruising. These bicycles were sold in various colors and sizes at authorized Cannondale dealers nationwide between June 2019 and October 2020. Consumers should stop riding the bike until the fender is removed and contact a dealer for a free repair.

Risk

The front fender can unexpectedly detach and jam into the front wheel while the bicycle is in motion, causing the wheel to stop abruptly and throwing the rider from the bike. Eight incidents of fender detachment have been reported, with two resulting in physical injuries.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your bicycle by checking the top tube for the 'Canvas' decal and ensuring the bike is an 'e-bicycle' equipped with an electric assist motor.
  2. Immediately stop riding the bicycle until you have removed the front fender entirely.
  3. Contact your local authorized Cannondale dealer or Cycling Sports Group at 800-245-3872 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, to arrange for a free repair.
  4. You may also email ridersupport@cannondale.com or visit www.cannondale.com and click on 'Recalls and Notices' for more information and to locate a service center.
  5. For additional questions, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 or visit www.cpsc.gov.
