Cuisinart Food Processors Recalled by Conair Due to Laceration Hazard

Summary

Cuisinart has recalled about 8 million food processors because the riveted stainless steel blades can crack over time, causing small metal pieces to break off into processed food. Conair has received 69 reports of consumers finding broken metal pieces in their food, including 30 reports of mouth lacerations or tooth injuries. These food processors were sold in various colors at department and specialty stores nationwide and online from July 1996 through December 2015 for between $100 and $350. Consumers should immediately stop using the riveted blade and contact Cuisinart for a free replacement.

Risk

The blade's rivets can fail, causing the metal blade to splinter or break into the food being processed. This creates a severe laceration or choking hazard if the metal fragments are ingested, as evidenced by reports of mouth and tooth injuries.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the bottom of your food processor to see if the model number begins with any of the following: CFP-9, CFP-11, DFP-7, DFP-11, DFP-14, DLC-5, DLC-7, DLC-8, DLC-10, DLC-XP, DLC-2007, DLC-2009, DLC-2011, DLC-2014, DLC-3011, DLC-3014, EV-7, EV-10, EV-11, EV-14, KFP-7, or MP-14.
  2. Examine the blade itself: only silver-colored stainless steel blades with a beige plastic center hub and exactly four metal rivets are included in this recall.
  3. Immediately stop using the food processor's riveted blade if it matches the description and model numbers above.
  4. Contact Cuisinart toll-free at 877-339-2534 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Saturday and Sunday to request a free replacement blade.
  5. You can also visit www.cuisinart.com and click on 'Product Recalls' at the bottom of the page for more information and to register for your replacement.
  6. For additional questions, call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
