Crosman Recalls Crossbow Rope Cocking Devices Due to Injury Hazard

Summary

Crosman is recalling about 1,400 rope cocking devices shipped with Centerpoint Sniper 370 crossbows. The hooks on these devices can bind and break when pulled back, causing the rope to recoil suddenly. This defect has already led to three reports of broken hooks, including one instance of a facial laceration. These devices were sold at Academy, Cabela's, and online at Amazon.com, Crosman.com, and Sportsmansguide.com from December 2015 through June 2016. Crosman will provide a free replacement cocking device without the hazardous tabs.

Risk

The plastic tabs on the hooks can get stuck as the device is being pulled back to cock the crossbow, causing the hooks to snap under tension. This results in the rope recoiling rapidly toward the user, posing a risk of facial lacerations or other impact injuries.

What You Should Do

  1. Locate the serial number on your Centerpoint Sniper 370 crossbow, which is printed on the right side of the frame above the trigger.
  2. Check if the serial number begins with '015' and confirm that the words 'CENTERPOINT' and 'SNIPER 370' are printed on the crossbow frame.
  3. Identify the affected rope cocking device by looking for black plastic 'T' shaped handles at each end of a 45-inch rope and a pair of black plastic hooks that have small tabs.
  4. Stop using the recalled rope cocking device immediately.
  5. Contact Crosman Corporation toll-free at 866-583-7340 at any time or visit www.crosman.com and click on 'Safety Notice' at the bottom of the page to receive instructions on returning the device for a free replacement.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions about this recall.
