Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 521,746 vehicles, specifically 2020-2023 Ford Escape and 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport models equipped with 1.5L engines. A fuel injector in these engines may crack, causing fuel to leak inside the engine compartment. This recall also includes vehicles previously repaired under a different recall (22V-191), meaning those owners must have their vehicles serviced again for this new remedy. Dealers will update the engine control software and install a drain tube to mitigate the risk of fire at no cost to owners.

Risk

A fuel leak in the engine compartment can come into contact with hot engine or exhaust components, which can ignite the fuel and cause a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's identification to see if it is a 2020-2023 Ford Escape or a 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport equipped with a 1.5L engine.
  2. If your vehicle was previously repaired under recall 22V-191, you must still bring it in for this new service, as the previous fix is no longer sufficient.
  3. Contact a Ford dealer to schedule a free repair, which includes a software update for fuel injector leak detection and the installation of a drain tube.
  4. You may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 22S73 for more information.
  5. For additional questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
