Summary

Airstream, Inc. is recalling 74 of its 2023-2024 Bambi, Basecamp, Caravel, Flying Cloud, Globetrotter, International, and Interstate travel trailers. The SmartPlug 30-amp electrical power inlet on these vehicles contains a D-ring that can crack if it was over-tightened during manufacturing. Airstream dealers will inspect the inlet and replace it if necessary at no cost to the owner.

Risk

A cracked or failing D-ring can cause internal electrical wires to become loose, leading to electrical arcing. This creates a significant risk of fire while the trailer is connected to power.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle registration or purchase documents to see if you own a 2023-2024 Airstream Bambi, Basecamp, Caravel, Flying Cloud, Globetrotter, International, or Interstate travel trailer.
  2. Contact an authorized Airstream dealer to schedule a free inspection and, if necessary, a replacement of the SmartPlug 30-amp electrical inlet.
  3. If you have further questions, contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 (extensions 7401 or 7411).
  4. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
