Summary

SmartPlug Systems is recalling approximately 1,323 units of their 30A Shore Power Inlets, specifically part number BM30xx manufactured between June 1, 2023, and July 21, 2023. The manganese bronze D-rings in these inlets can crack or fail if they are over-tightened during installation or maintenance. This defect can lead to loose wiring and electrical arcing, which significantly increases the risk of a fire. SmartPlug has notified customers and dealers will inspect and replace the affected inlets at no cost to the owner.

Risk

A cracked or broken D-ring can cause internal electrical wires to become loose. This creates electrical arcing—a condition where electricity jumps across a gap—which generates intense heat and can lead to a fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your SmartPlug 30-amp shore power inlet to see if it is part number BM30xx and was manufactured between June 1, 2023, and July 21, 2023.
