Summary

Britax is recalling approximately 71,000 B-Safe 35 and B-Safe 35 Elite infant car seats and travel systems because the carry handle can suddenly crack and break. This defect can cause the carrier to fall unexpectedly while being carried, posing a significant injury risk to the infant inside. Britax has received 74 reports of handles fracturing or breaking, including one report of an infant who suffered a bump on the head after the carrier fell. These products were sold in various colors at major retailers like Babies R Us, Target, and online at Amazon from November 2014 through January 2016. Owners will receive a free repair kit to reinforce the handle.

Risk

The plastic carry handle on the car seat can develop fractures and break completely during use. If the handle fails while the carrier is being transported by hand, the seat can fall to the ground, potentially causing head injuries or other trauma to the infant.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the white label located on the back of the infant car seat shell to identify your model number and Date of Manufacture (DOM).
  2. 3. Immediately stop carrying the car seat by the handle until the free repair kit has been installed.
  4. Continue to use the car seat safely only when it is secured in a vehicle base or clicked into a compatible stroller.
  5. Visit www.bsafe35recall.com to register for your free repair kit or to verify if your previous registration will trigger an automatic shipment.
