Summary

Knapheide Manufacturing Company is recalling 38 vehicles, including certain 2022-2023 GM 2500HD, 2023 GM 3500, 2022 RAM 3500, and Ford F-250, F-350, and F-550 models. These vehicles are equipped with Warn Industries VR EVO winches that feature a wireless handheld remote control. Water can enter these remotes and corrode the circuit board, which may trigger the winch to start operating on its own without user input. Owners will be provided with instructions to inspect and disable the wireless remote until a water-resistant replacement is available for free.

Risk

If the winch operates unintentionally due to circuit board corrosion, it poses a significant risk of injury to anyone near the vehicle or the winch cable. This unexpected movement can cause the cable to snap or pull objects and people toward the winch mechanism.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is a 2022-2023 GM 2500HD, 2023 GM 3500, 2022 RAM 3500, or a Ford F-250, F-350, or F-550 equipped with a Warn Industries VR EVO winch.
  2. Immediately inspect your handheld winch remote for signs of water intrusion or corrosion.
  3. Disable the wireless function of the remote right away by removing the internal battery pack.
  4. If you find water or corrosion while removing the battery, stop using the remote immediately and contact Warn Industries customer service to request a free replacement remote.
  5. Once new water-resistant remotes become available, contact Warn Industries or Knapheide Manufacturing Company at 217-222-7131 to obtain your free replacement.
  6. For additional questions or to check your VIN, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
