Summary

Field Van, Inc. is recalling 20 certain 2019-2022 Sprinter vehicles that are equipped with a Warn Winch and a wireless handheld remote. Water can leak into the handheld remote control and cause the internal circuit board to corrode, which may trigger the winch to start operating on its own without user input. Field Van is working with Warn Industries to provide owners with instructions on how to inspect their remotes and disable the wireless function by removing the battery pack.

Risk

If the winch operates unintentionally due to circuit board corrosion, it creates a significant risk of movement that can lead to serious injury for anyone near the vehicle or the winch cable.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2019-2022 Sprinter equipped with a Warn Winch and a wireless handheld remote control.
  2. Open the handheld remote and remove the battery pack to disable the wireless function and prevent unintentional operation.
  3. While removing the battery pack, inspect the remote for any signs of water intrusion or corrosion on the circuit board.
  4. If you find corrosion or water inside the remote, stop using it immediately and contact Warn customer service for a free replacement remote.
  5. Once a newly designed water-resistant remote becomes available, contact Warn Industries to receive your free replacement part.
  6. For further assistance or questions regarding the remedy, contact Field Van customer service at 1-559-233-8267.
  7. For additional information, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
