Summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling 20 units of 2019-2023 Continental Cargo, 2019-2022 Cargo Mate, and 2020 Cross Bow cargo trailers equipped with specific Warn Winches and wireless handheld remotes. Water can enter the handheld remote control, causing the circuit board to corrode and potentially triggering the winch to operate on its own. Owners will be provided with instructions to inspect their remotes and will eventually receive a replacement water-resistant remote free of charge.

Risk

Corrosion on the remote's circuit board can cause the winch to activate without user input, which increases the risk of serious injury to anyone near the winch or the load it is moving.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your trailer's brand and model year to see if it is one of the affected 2019-2023 Continental Cargo, 2019-2022 Cargo Mate, or 2020 Cross Bow trailers equipped with a wireless Warn Winch remote.
  2. Immediately inspect the wireless handheld remote for signs of water intrusion or corrosion according to the instructions provided by Forest River and Warn Industries.
  3. Disable the wireless function of the remote by removing the battery pack from the handheld unit.
  4. If you find water or corrosion while removing the battery pack, stop using the remote immediately and contact Warn Industries customer service for a replacement remote.
  5. Once new water-resistant remotes become available, contact Forest River at 1-574-825-8600 (Recall number 51-1608) or Warn Industries to obtain a replacement remote free of charge.
  6. For additional questions, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
