Summary

Warn Industries is recalling approximately 121,187 wireless/handheld remotes sold with VR EVO winches and as service parts. Water can enter the remote control and cause the circuit board to corrode, which may trigger the winch to operate on its own without user input. This recall affects VR EVO 8, 8-S, 10, 10-S, 12, and 12-S winch models.

Risk

If the winch operates unintentionally due to circuit board corrosion, it can move unexpected loads or cables, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury to the user or bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you have an affected remote by checking your winch model: VR EVO 8, VR EVO 8-S, VR EVO 10, VR EVO 10-S, VR EVO 12, or VR EVO 12-S.
  2. Immediately inspect your handheld remote for any signs of water intrusion or corrosion.
  3. As an interim safety measure, disable the wireless function of the remote by removing the internal battery pack.
  4. If you find any water or corrosion while removing the battery, stop using the remote immediately and contact Warn Industries customer service at 1-800-543-9276 for a free replacement remote.
  5. If no corrosion is found, continue using the remote only with the battery removed (wired mode) until Warn Industries makes a new water-resistant replacement remote available to you free of charge.
  6. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for additional information.
