Corp. Micro Bird, Inc: Inoperative Defrosting System/FMVSS 103

Summary

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. is recalling 61 of its 2019 G5 school buses because the windshield defrosting and defogging system may fail. A component called the LIN gateway module can malfunction, causing the defrosting system to stop working entirely. This defect means the vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for visibility. Dealers will replace the faulty module with a new one at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the windshield defrosting system fails, the driver's visibility through the front window can be significantly reduced by frost or fog. This decreased visibility increases the likelihood of a crash, especially in cold or humid weather conditions.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if it is a 2019 Micro Bird G5 school bus.
  2. Contact a Micro Bird dealer to schedule a free replacement of the LIN gateway module.
  3. You may contact Micro Bird customer service at 1-819-477-2012 and reference recall number 24-105-CUS.
  4. For additional information or to report a safety concern, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
