Summary

Hongkong Sun Rise Trading is recalling approximately 48,100 cordless electric chainsaws sold under the Greenworks, Kobalt, and Snapper brand names. The recall affects 16-inch and 18-inch models with 80-volt or 82-volt batteries sold at Lowe's and other retailers between January 2015 and October 2017. The chain brake guard can fail, allowing the saw to continue running when it should stop, which creates a serious risk of injury. While no injuries have been reported yet, consumers should immediately stop using these units and contact the distributor for a free repair.

Risk

The chain brake guard is a safety feature designed to stop the chain; if it fails, the chainsaw may continue to operate unexpectedly, posing a severe laceration or injury hazard to the operator.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the recalled Greenworks, Kobalt, or Snapper cordless electric chainsaws.
  2. Identify your unit by checking the brand name printed on the saw blade (GreenworksPro, Greenworks Commercial, Kobalt, or Snapper) and the model number located on the warning label under the switch handle.
  3. Check for the following affected model numbers: Greenworks Pro CS80L211 (16"), Greenworks Pro CS80L00 (18"), Greenworks Commercial GS 180 (18"), Kobalt KCS 180 (18"), and Snapper XD SXDCS82 (18").
  4. For Kobalt models, also check for item numbers 419015 or 670251, and for Snapper models, look for item number 1696773 on the product label.
  5. Contact Hongkong Sun Rise Trading toll-free at 888-266-7096 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Friday through Sunday to receive a free repair.
  6. You can also visit www.greenworkstools.com and click on 'Important Safety Notice' at the bottom of the page for more details.
  7. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for any additional safety questions.
