Summary

Nikola Corporation is recalling approximately 209 of its 2022-2023 Tre BEV electric trucks because coolant may leak inside the battery pack. This leak can lead to an electrical short circuit within the high-voltage system. Nikola will replace the affected battery packs with new ones free of charge to resolve the issue.

Risk

Leaking coolant can build up inside the battery pack and cause an electrical short, which significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Because of this fire risk, owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors and away from buildings or other structures until the repair is completed.

What You Should Do

  1. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage due to fire risk.
  2. Ensure the Main Battery Disconnect (MBD) switch is left in the 'ON' position at all times until the vehicle has been repaired.
  3. Contact Nikola customer service at 1-630-808-4531 to schedule a free battery pack replacement, referencing recall number 23VDC-0601.
  4. Verify if your vehicle is included by checking for 2022-2023 Tre BEV models or by contacting your local Nikola dealer.
  5. For additional questions or to report safety concerns, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
