Lucid USA, Inc.: 2022-2023 Air Vehicles Recalled for Windshield Defrosting Failure

Summary

Lucid USA, Inc. is recalling 2,042 of its 2022-2023 Air luxury electric vehicles because the high voltage coolant heater may fail. If this component fails, the vehicle will be unable to defrost the windshield, which can significantly impair the driver's visibility during cold weather. Lucid will provide a free software update to detect these failures and will replace any faulty heaters at no cost to the owner.

Risk

A failed coolant heater prevents the windshield from being cleared of frost or ice. This reduces the driver's view of the road, which increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2022 or 2023 Lucid Air model affected by this recall.
  2. Look for a warning light or notification on your vehicle's display that may indicate a high voltage coolant heater failure once the software update is installed.
  3. Contact Lucid customer service at 1-888-995-8243 to schedule a free software update and, if necessary, a heater replacement (refer to recall number SR-24-01-0).
  4. If your windshield cannot be defrosted, exercise extreme caution or avoid driving in conditions where visibility may be obstructed until the repair is completed.
  5. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
