Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.: Audi Sedans and Avants Recalled Due to Engine Power Loss from Liquid Spills

Summary

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling approximately 50,883 Audi vehicles, including certain 2019-2022 A6 and A7 models, as well as S6, S7, RS6, and RS7 variants. Liquid spilled in the rear seat area can seep into the gateway control module, causing it to shut down. This failure results in a sudden reduction of engine power, which can occur while driving and significantly increases the risk of a collision. To fix this issue, Audi dealers will install a protective cover over the control module free of charge.

Risk

If liquid is spilled in the rear seat, it can penetrate the gateway control module and cause it to short circuit or shut down. This leads to an immediate loss of engine power, making it difficult for the driver to maintain speed or safely maneuver the vehicle in traffic.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is one of the following models: 2020-2022 Audi S7, S6 Sedan, A6 Allroad; 2021-2022 RS7, RS6 Avant; or 2019-2022 A7 and A6 Sedan.
  2. Be cautious about carrying liquids in the rear seat area to prevent potential spills until the recall repair is completed.
  3. Contact an authorized Audi dealer to schedule a free appointment for the installation of a protective cover on the gateway control module.
  4. If you have questions, contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 and reference recall number 90V2.
  5. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional information.
