Summary

Navistar is recalling approximately 7,918 International trucks because a component in the engine called a connecting rod wrist pin can crack. This defect affects certain 2018-2021 International HV, 2018-2020 International HX, 2018-2021 International LT, and 2018-2021 International RH vehicles. If the part fails, the engine may shut down unexpectedly, which can happen while driving and increase the risk of a crash. To fix this, dealers will install specialized knock detection software to provide an early warning and will replace the connecting rods if necessary, free of charge.

Risk

The connecting rod wrist pin may crack, leading to a total engine connecting rod failure. This failure causes the engine to shut down suddenly while the vehicle is in motion, potentially leaving the driver without power and increasing the likelihood of a collision.
