Summary

Braun Ambulances is recalling approximately 1,321 emergency vehicles including Chief XL, Express, Express Plus, Liberty, Patriot, Signature, Super Chief, and TLC models from the years 2014 through 2022. The recall is due to excessive voltage that can damage the condenser fan relay, causing the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system to fail and overheat. Braun dealers will replace the relay and install a protective diode at no cost to owners to prevent this failure.

Risk

The HVAC system can fail and overheat due to a damaged relay, which significantly increases the risk of a fire within the vehicle.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's model and production year to see if it is one of the affected 2014-2022 Braun models: Chief XL, Express, Express Plus, Liberty, Patriot, Signature, Super Chief, or TLC.
  2. Contact an authorized Braun dealer to schedule a free repair; dealers will replace the condenser fan relay and install a diode to prevent future voltage damage.
  3. If you have questions or need help finding a dealer, contact Braun's customer service at 1-877-344-9990 and reference recall number 2022-02.
  4. For additional information, you may call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
