Summary

BMW of North America is recalling approximately 951 motorcycles, including certain 2022 S1000RR and M1000RR models, as well as 2022-2023 S1000XR and S1000R models. The clutch cover bolts were not properly lubricated during assembly, which can cause the bolts to loosen over time and allow engine oil to leak. Dealers will replace all 10 clutch cover bolts with properly lubricated ones free of charge to prevent potential crashes or fires.

Risk

Leaking oil can drip onto the rear tire or exhaust system, which significantly increases the risk of the rider losing control and crashing or the vehicle catching fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your motorcycle is one of the affected models: 2022 BMW S1000RR, 2022 BMW M1000RR, 2022-2023 BMW S1000XR, or 2022-2023 BMW S1000R.
  2. Inspect the area around the clutch cover for any signs of wetness or oil residue.
  3. Contact an authorized BMW motorcycle dealer to schedule a free repair, where technicians will replace all 10 clutch cover bolts.
  4. If you have further questions, contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or visit their website for recall information.
