Chrysler (FCA US, LLC): Vehicle Rollaway Due to ABS Malfunction

Summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 206,502 model year 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. A defect in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module can cause the brake lights to stay on and may disable safety features like the ABS and Electronic Stability Control. Crucially, this defect allows the vehicle to be started and shifted out of 'Park' without the driver needing to press the brake pedal, which can lead to the vehicle rolling away unexpectedly.

Risk

The vehicle may roll away if shifted out of 'Park' without the brake applied, or may experience reduced handling and control due to disabled ABS and ESC systems. Additionally, brake lights that illuminate incorrectly can confuse trailing drivers, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if it is a 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee or Dodge Durango.
  2. Be aware that your vehicle may be able to start and shift out of 'Park' without the brake pedal being depressed; ensure the parking brake is engaged when parked until the repair is performed.
  3. Contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to discuss the recall (FCA recall number 94B).
  4. Even if your vehicle was previously repaired under recall 22V-426, you must have this new remedy completed: 'Dealers will replace the integrated pressure transducer and update the ABS module software, as necessary free of charge.'
  5. For further information or to check your VIN, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
