Summary

General Motors is recalling approximately 70,768 model year 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks that are equipped with chrome front grille deflectors. The attachments holding these deflectors in place can fracture, which may cause the entire grille to detach from the vehicle while driving. Owners should contact a GMC dealer to have the attachment points reinforced or repaired at no cost.

Risk

A detached front grille deflector can fall into the roadway, becoming a significant hazard for other motorists and increasing the risk of a crash. This recall is assigned a medium risk level because of the potential for vehicle-to-vehicle accidents if the component separates at high speeds.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if you own a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with a chrome front grille deflector.
  2. Verify if your vehicle is included in this recall by visiting www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and entering your 17-digit VIN, or by calling GM customer service for GMC at 1-800-462-8782 using recall number N242490120.
  3. Contact an authorized GMC dealer to schedule a service appointment for the following remedy: Dealers will reinforce or repair all attachment points on the chrome front grille deflector, free of charge.
  4. If you have already received an owner notification letter (mailed around March 17, 2025), keep it for your records and present it at the dealership during your repair appointment.
  5. For additional questions or concerns, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
