Chimparoo Baby Carriers by L'echarpe Porte-bonheur Recalled Due to Fall Hazard

Summary

L'echarpe Porte-bonheur has recalled about 130 Chimparoo brand Trek baby carriers because the side straps can loosen unexpectedly from the plastic buckle. This defect can cause a child to fall out of the carrier while being worn. The recall involves 100% twill fabric carriers sold in 18 different solid, striped, and pattern colors between May 2016 and July 2016. One incident of a strap loosening has been reported, though no injuries have occurred. Consumers should stop using the carrier and contact the company for a free replacement buckle.

Risk

The plastic side buckle can fail to hold the polypropylene webbing strap securely, allowing it to slip and loosen. If the strap detaches or loosens while a child is in the carrier, the child can fall to the ground, posing a risk of serious injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your baby carrier to see if 'Chimparoo' is printed on the upper right-hand corner and if 'Trek' is embroidered on the belt to confirm it is the affected model.
  2. Identify if your carrier was purchased between May 2016 and July 2016 from a boutique store or online at Amazon.com or Chimparoo.ca.
  3. Immediately stop using the recalled Chimparoo Trek baby carrier until it has been repaired.
  4. Contact Chimparoo toll-free at 855-289-5343 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or email safety@Chimparoo.com to receive a free replacement side buckle.
