Cervélo USA is recalling approximately 1,800 Model Year 2022 Cervélo R5 and Caledonia-5 bicycles and 182 ST31 LT replacement stems. The handlebars on these bikes can slip within the stem, which can cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle and fall. Cervélo has received 13 reports of handlebars slipping, including one report of an injury resulting from a fall.
The handlebar faceplate can fail to secure the bars adequately, allowing the handlebars to shift or slip suddenly while in use. This slippage can lead to a sudden loss of steering control, posing a significant crash and fall hazard to the rider.
Consumers should immediately stop using the two recalled models of Cervélo bicycles and Cervélo replacement stems and contact their authorized Cervélo dealer to arrange for a free repair to replace the faceplate.
