Summary

Cascade Designs is recalling about 60,655 MSR camping cooking pots because the pot handle can detach or become loose during use. This defect poses a risk of burns and scalds from hot food or liquids spilling onto the user. The company has received 22 reports of the handle failing, including two reports of burn injuries. The recalled items include various 1- to 2-liter anodized aluminum pots sold individually and as part of Reactor, Trail Lite, and PocketRocket Stove Kits between January 2008 and October 2023. Consumers should immediately stop using these pots and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement handle.

Risk

The cooking pot handle can become loose or completely detach, causing the pot to tip or fall and spill hot contents onto consumers. This has already resulted in two reported burn injuries among 22 reported incidents of handle failure.

What You Should Do

  1. The recalled products are MSR brand anodized aluminum camping cooking pots (1- to 2-liters) sold individually or as part of the Reactor, Trail Lite, and PocketRocket Stove Kits. Look for the 'MSR' logo printed on the side of the pot.
  2. Identify your pot by the model name and size: affected models include the Reactor Stove System (1 liter, 1.7 liter, and accessory pots), Trail Lite pots (1.3 liter, 2 liter, and kits), and PocketRocket Stove Kits.
  3. Stop using the recalled camping cooking pots immediately.
  4. Contact Cascade Designs at 800-531-9531 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or online at www.msrgear.com/pot-recall.html for instructions on submitting a photo of the product to receive a free replacement pot handle or lifter.
  5. The replacement pot handle and lifter do not require tools to install.
  6. For additional questions or to report an incident, call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
