Summary

Carlin is recalling about 110 Williamson and Thermoflo furnaces and boilers equipped with Carlin oil burners. A wiring malfunction can cause the burners to fail to shut off, posing a serious fire hazard. One incident of a burner failing to shut off has been reported, though no injuries have occurred. These units were sold and installed by contractors nationwide between April 2015 and November 2015.

Risk

A wiring defect in the burner assembly can prevent the unit from shutting down properly. This continuous operation can lead to overheating and poses a fire hazard to the home.

What You Should Do

  1. Locate the installation date label on the outside of your furnace or boiler and check if the date is between April 1, 2015, and November 31, 2015.
  2. Identify the burner by looking for the 'Carlin' brand name printed in white letters on the face of the burner nameplate.
  3. On recalled furnaces, the Carlin burner is located inside the unit behind the furnace grate; on recalled boilers, it is attached to the outside of the boiler enclosure.
  4. If you cannot find the installation label or if your unit falls within the recall dates, contact Carlin immediately at 800-989-2275 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to arrange for a free repair.
  5. Visit www.carlincombustion.com and click 'Contact Us' then 'Customer Service' for more information or to request a repair online.
  6. For additional questions or concerns, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
