Summary

Cargill, Inc. - Animal Nutrition Division is recalling approximately 365 tons of Carmelyx 18% Multi Species Supplement Tubs because the product has the potential to contain dangerously high levels of copper. The recall includes both the 125 lb (56.51 Kg) and 225 lb (102.2 Kg) tubs manufactured in Seguin, Texas. These products were distributed within the state of Texas. Consumers should immediately stop using these supplement tubs for animal feed and return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

Risk

Consumption of feed with elevated copper levels can cause copper toxicity in animals, which may lead to severe liver damage, internal bleeding, and death. Sheep are particularly sensitive to copper and are at the highest risk of fatal poisoning from this defect.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you have Carmelyx 18% Multi Species Supplement Tubs in either the 125 lb (56.51 Kg) or 225 lb (102.2 Kg) sizes.
  2. Check the product label to see if the tub was manufactured for or guaranteed by Cargill, Inc. of Minneapolis, MN (Recall number V-015-2010).
  3. Immediately stop using this supplement to feed any livestock or multi-species animals.
  4. Return any affected supplement tubs to the retail store where they were purchased for a full refund.
  5. If your animals have consumed this supplement and are showing signs of illness, such as lethargy, jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or gums), or dark-colored urine, contact a veterinarian immediately.
