Chrysler (FCA US, LLC): Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Recalled for Potential Brake Rotor Fracture

Summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 719 vehicles, specifically 2017-2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia and 2018-2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio models equipped with carbon ceramic matrix brakes. The brake system in these vehicles may exert excessive clamping force during certain driving maneuvers, which can cause the brake rotor to fracture. This defect leads to a sudden decrease in braking performance, and dealers will provide a free software update to the brake system module to resolve the issue.

Risk

If the brake rotor fractures due to excessive pressure, the vehicle's ability to slow down or stop quickly is significantly reduced, which increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if it is a 2017-2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia or a 2018-2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio equipped with the optional carbon ceramic matrix brakes.
  2. Contact an authorized Alfa Romeo dealer to schedule an appointment for a free update to your vehicle's brake system module (BSM) software.
  3. If you have questions or need to verify your vehicle's status, contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 68A.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
