Cane Creek Recalls Bicycle Shocks Due to Risk of Injury

Summary

Cane Creek is recalling about 5,000 DBINLINE bicycle rear shock absorbers because the adjustment markings for high-speed rebound damping are printed backwards. These black anodized aluminum shocks were sold individually and pre-installed on various 2015 model year full-suspension mountain bikes from brands including Specialized, Ibis, Intense, and Norco. Cane Creek has received four complaints, including one report of an injury involving midsection bruising. Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles equipped with these shocks and contact the company for a free repair decal kit to correct the labels.

Risk

The graphics on the shock incorrectly identify which direction to turn the adjuster to increase or decrease rebound speed. If a rider follows these incorrect markings, the bike's suspension will behave unexpectedly, which can cause the rider to lose control and fall.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the air can portion of your rear shock for the word 'INLINE' and verify the serial number located on the underside of the top valve body.
  2. Confirm if your serial number falls within the affected ranges: AA00002 through AA07304 or SA00077 through SA03926.
  3. If your shock is within these ranges, immediately stop using the bicycle until the markings are corrected.
  4. Contact Cane Creek Cycling Components at 800-234-2725 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at www.canecreek.com to request a free repair decal kit to fix the high-speed rebound (HSR) adjustment markings.
  5. If you own a 2015 model year Alutech, Banshee, Bianchi, Canyon, Ghost, Guerilla, Ibis, Intense, Knolly, Nicolai, Norco, Nukeproof, Orange, or Specialized mountain bike, inspect the rear suspension specifically for this Cane Creek DBINLINE model.
  6. For additional questions or concerns regarding this recall, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
