Summary

Unibright Foods Inc. is recalling approximately 48,139 pounds of Mishima brand Sukiyaki Beef (2.2 lb. packages) and Gingered Pork (1.7 lb. packages). These frozen, ready-to-eat products were sold in several states including California, Illinois, and New York between August 2014 and January 2015. The products are being recalled because they may contain pieces of stainless steel wire.

Risk

The products may be contaminated with metal extraneous materials, specifically stainless steel wire, which poses a choking hazard or risk of internal injury if consumed. One incident involving a restaurant finding a wire in the sukiyaki beef has been reported.

What You Should Do

  1. Locate the products in your freezer and check the labels for Mishima Sukiyaki Beef (2.2 lb.) or Mishima Gingered Pork (1.7 lb.).
  2. Verify the identifying numbers: look for establishment number 'EST.1163' inside the USDA mark of inspection and package ID '15069' for the beef or '15059' for the pork.
  3. Check the production dates: the beef was produced between Aug. 12, 2014, and Dec. 16, 2014; the pork was produced between Aug. 5, 2014, and Aug. 6, 2014.
  4. If you have these products, do not consume them; contact the manufacturer for disposal or return instructions.
  5. Contact Jacob Fernandez at (562) 806-3221 with questions regarding the recall.
  6. For additional food safety questions, contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-674-6854.
