Summary

Cabrinha is recalling about 750 TrimLite Cleat™ kiteboard control systems, including the Overdrive 1X, standard 1X, and Chaos 1X models with TrimLite. The trim line, which connects the kite to the control handle, can break at the connection point to the depower mainline. The firm has received four reports of these lines breaking during use. These systems were sold at watersports stores nationwide between July 2015 and August 2015 for between $430 and $530. Consumers should stop using the recalled systems and return them to the place of purchase for a free replacement part.

Risk

If the trim line breaks, the user can lose control of the kite, which poses a significant risk of physical injury. There have been four reports of the lines breaking, although no injuries have been reported yet.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the Overdrive 1X with TrimLite, standard 1X with TrimLite, or Chaos 1X with TrimLite control systems.
  2. Check the trim line near the cleat: only units with white tape located below the loop connecting the trim line to the cleat are included in this recall. Units with black tape are already approved replacements and are safe to use.
  3. Locate the model number on the cloth tab attached to the bungee line restrainers at the end of the bars. Affected model numbers include KS6CSODQC (Overdrive 1X), KS6CSFXQL (Standard 1X), and KS6CSCHFX (Chaos 1X).
  4. Return the affected control system to the place of purchase to have a free replacement part installed.
  5. Contact Cabrinha Kites at 808-893-0286 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. HST Monday through Friday, or visit www.cabrinhakites.com and click on 'Safety Alert' for more information.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for additional questions regarding this recall.
