Summary

Cabot Stains has recalled about 17,500 units of Wood Cleaner and 10,900 units of Wood Brightener sold in 1.3-gallon white handle tanks with black pump assemblies. The spray pump on these containers can lose its seal, causing the chemicals inside to leak out during use. Consumers should immediately stop using these products and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. These products were sold nationwide at hardware stores like Lowe's and Ace Hardware between March 2011 and June 2012.

Risk

The internal chemicals can leak from the pump seal, posing a risk of chemical burns or serious internal and external injuries if the liquid touches skin, enters the eyes, or is accidentally swallowed. While three leaks have been reported, no injuries have occurred yet.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your container for a 1.3-gallon white tank with a black pump handle and a yellow 'Cabot' label on the front.
  2. Identify the product by checking the back panel for UPC code 080351810503 on Wood Cleaner bottles or UPC code 080351810497 on Wood Brightener bottles.
  3. Immediately stop using the product if it matches these descriptions and do not attempt to reuse the empty container for other liquids.
  4. Return the affected product to the original store of purchase (such as Ace Hardware, Do It Best, Farm & Fleet, Lowe's, or United Hardware) to receive a full refund.
  5. For more information, contact Cabot toll-free at (877) 755-3336 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET, 7 days a week, or visit www.cabotstain.com.
