Marion Body Works Inc: Cab Tilt Cylinder May Overextend and Drop the Cab

Summary

Marion Body Works Inc. is recalling two 2024 Spartan Fire Metro Star vehicles due to a manufacturing defect where a mechanical stop is missing from the cab tilt system. This missing part can cause the cylinder used to tilt the cab for maintenance to overextend, potentially leading to a sudden drop of the heavy cab structure. Dealers will inspect the system and replace the cylinder as necessary at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Risk

If the cab tilt cylinder overextends while the cab is being raised or held open, the cab can suddenly drop without warning. This creates a severe crushing or impact hazard for anyone working underneath or near the cab, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the two affected 2024 Spartan Fire Metro Star models by contacting Marion Body Works or checking your VIN on the NHTSA website.
  2. Contact a Marion Body Works dealer immediately to schedule a free inspection and potential cylinder replacement.
  3. Dealers will inspect and replace the cylinder as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 27, 2025. Owners may contact Marion Body Works customer service at 1-715-754-5261.
  4. If you have additional questions or concerns, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
