Burley Design is recalling approximately 4,150 Tailwind bicycle racks used to hitch children's trailercycles to adult bikes. The aluminum racks were sold individually in black or silver, and were also included with Kazoo and Piccolo brand trailercycles (black only). These racks can break at the top connection point, which could cause the trailercycle to detach while in use. There have been 11 reports of these racks breaking, including one report of a broken leg and another minor leg injury.
The top portion of the aluminum rack that connects the trailercycle to the towing bicycle can fail and break, causing the child's trailercycle to suddenly disconnect and posing a serious fall hazard to the child rider.
Consumers should stop using the Tailwind Racks immediately and contact Burley to receive a free replacement rack. Burley will replace recalled Tailwind Racks with a steel Moose Rack.
