Summary

BRP is recalling about 12,500 model year 2008 through 2015 Can-Am Mini DS youth ATVs. These vehicles, with 70cc and 90cc engines, fail to meet federal safety standards for maximum unrestricted speed and parking brake performance. The speed and braking issues can lead to a crash hazard for young riders. The recalled units were sold in black and yellow at Can-Am dealers nationwide between July 2007 and January 2015 for between $1,800 and $2,800. BRP is offering a free repair to all affected owners.

Risk

The ATVs may exceed safe maximum speeds for youth riders and have parking brakes that fail to hold the vehicle in place. These violations of federal safety standards significantly increase the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle to see if it is a model year 2008 through 2015 Can-Am Mini DS 70 or DS 90 ATV.
  2. Look for the model name 'Can-Am DS' and the engine size (70 or 90) on both sides of the vehicle's fairing, and 'Can-Am' in white letters on both sides of the seat.
  3. Stop using the recalled ATVs immediately and prevent children from riding them.
  4. Contact a BRP dealer to schedule a free repair for the speed control or parking brake issues. BRP is also notifying registered owners directly.
  5. For more information, contact BRP toll-free at (888) 272-9222 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.can-am.brp.com/off-road and click on 'Owners' then 'Safety Recalls'.
