BRP Recalls Coolers Due to Entrapment and Suffocation Hazards

Summary

BRP is recalling about 2,500 Sea-Doo LinQ 13.5 gallon (51 liter) marine coolers because the latch can automatically lock when the lid is closed. This creates an airtight seal that can trap a person inside, posing a serious risk of entrapment and suffocation. These white coolers with black accessories were sold at Sea-Doo dealers, Amazon.com, and sea-doo.com from September 2018 through June 2019, and consumers should contact a dealer for a free repair.

Risk

If a person crawls inside the cooler and the lid is closed, the latch automatically locks them in an airtight container, making it impossible to escape from the inside. This can lead to oxygen deprivation and death by suffocation.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately move the Sea-Doo LinQ 13.5 gallon (51 liter) marine cooler out of the reach of children.
  2. Check the underside of the cooler for part number 269800817, which may be engraved directly into the plastic or printed on a sticker.
  3. Identify your cooler by its white body and black storage pocket, rod holder system, and trolling slots.
  4. Contact an authorized BRP Sea-Doo dealer to schedule a free repair of the locking mechanism.
  5. For more information, call BRP toll-free at 888-272-9222 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Sunday, or visit www.sea-doo.com and click on 'Owner Center' then 'Safety'.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for additional questions regarding this recall.
