BRP Recalls All-Terrain Vehicles Due to Crash Hazard (Recall Alert)

Summary

BRP has recalled approximately 135 model year 2021 Can-Am Outlander and Renegade All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) because a rear wheel can detach while the vehicle is in motion. This defect can lead to a sudden loss of control and a crash; the company has already received two reports of wheels coming loose or falling off. These ATVs were sold in various colors including red, tundra green, granite gray-octane blue, camo, and yellow at Can-Am dealers nationwide between October and November 2020. Consumers should stop using these vehicles and contact a dealer for a free repair.

Risk

A mechanical failure can cause a rear wheel to separate from the vehicle's frame. This results in an immediate loss of steering and stability control, posing a severe crash hazard to the rider and others nearby.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle to see if it is one of the affected 2021 models: Outlander 450, 570, DPS 450, DPS 570, XMR 850, XMR 1000R, XT 570, XXC 1000R, or Renegade XMR 1000R.
  2. Locate the Model Name on the side panels and the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the frame under the seat or behind the right front wheel to confirm if your unit is part of the recall.
  3. Immediately stop using the recalled ATV to avoid the risk of a wheel separation and crash.
  4. Contact an authorized BRP Can-Am ATV dealer to schedule a free repair. You can reach BRP toll-free at 888-272-9222 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET daily, or use their online contact form at https://can-am.brp.com/off-road/us/en/form/contact-us.html.
