Summary

Winnebago Towable is recalling approximately 325 of its 2024 Access travel trailers due to a critical safety defect. The breakaway switch, which is designed to activate the trailer's brakes if it becomes detached from the towing vehicle, was wired incorrectly and may fail to operate. Owners are eligible for a free repair to correct the wiring of the breakaway switch.

Risk

If the trailer becomes detached from the towing vehicle while in motion, the incorrectly wired switch may prevent the emergency brakes from engaging. This failure significantly increases the risk of a high-speed crash or injury if the trailer continues to roll unbraked into traffic or off the roadway.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if you own a 2024 Winnebago Access travel trailer.
  2. Locate your vehicle identification number (VIN) and contact Winnebago customer service at 1-574-825-5280 (extension 5220) to confirm if your specific unit is part of recall number CAM0000034.
  3. Contact an authorized Winnebago dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the breakaway switch rewired.
  4. For additional information or to report safety concerns, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
