Summary

Mazda is recalling approximately 9,914 of its 2024 CX-90 vehicles because the automatic braking system may falsely detect objects while driving. This software defect can cause the brakes to activate suddenly and unexpectedly without any real hazard present. To fix this issue, Mazda dealers will update the vehicle control module software at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the vehicle brakes suddenly and unexpectedly while driving, it can surprise the driver and nearby motorists, significantly increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or other crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is affected by checking your 17-digit VIN on the NHTSA website or by contacting a Mazda dealer.
  2. Contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 (Option 6) and reference recall number 6724E to schedule a free repair.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized Mazda dealer to have the vehicle control module (VCM) reprogrammed with updated software free of charge.
