Summary

General Motors is recalling 62,468 of its 2019-2024 Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty trucks (4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD models). A defect in the brake pressure sensor assembly can allow brake fluid to leak into the brake pressure switch, which may cause an electrical short circuit. To fix this issue, dealers will replace the brake pressure switch wire harness at no cost to vehicle owners.

Risk

A short circuit in the brake pressure switch can cause the electrical circuit to overheat, creating a high risk of fire whether the truck is being driven or is parked. Because of the potential for fire, owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors and away from buildings until the necessary repairs are completed.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves 2019-2024 Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty trucks, specifically the 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD models.
  2. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage due to fire risk.
  3. If your vehicle was previously repaired for a similar issue under a different recall (number 23V266), it must still be brought in for this new repair to resolve the risk.
  4. Contact General Motors customer assistance at 1-866-467-9700 or contact your local dealer to schedule a free replacement of the brake pressure switch wire harness. Provide the GM recall number N242482680.
  5. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional recall information.
