Summary

General Motors is recalling approximately 40,428 Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD Medium-Duty trucks from model years 2019 through 2023. A defect in the brake pressure sensor assembly can allow brake fluid to leak into the brake pressure switch, causing an electrical short-circuit. This short-circuit can lead to the circuit overheating and starting a fire. General Motors dealers will replace the master cylinder pressure sensor and inspect or replace the wire harness free of charge.

Risk

The electrical short-circuit in the brake pressure switch can cause the circuit to overheat, which significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire while the truck is being driven or even when it is parked. Because of this fire risk, owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors and away from buildings or other structures until the repair is finished.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm your vehicle is part of the recall by checking if you own a 2019-2023 Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD, or 6500HD Medium-Duty truck.
  2. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage or near buildings due to the risk of a fire while the vehicle is parked.
  3. Contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 to schedule a free repair; refer to GM recall number N222375270.
  4. Bring your vehicle to an authorized dealer who will replace the master cylinder pressure sensor and inspect the wire harness (replacing it if necessary) at no cost to you.
  5. For additional information, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
