Summary

Indian Motorcycle Company is recalling 11,648 motorcycles across several models, including 2020-2022 Challenger, 2019-2022 FTR, and 2022 Pursuit series bikes. The brake lights on these motorcycles may illuminate unexpectedly even when the rider has not applied the brakes. Dealers will provide a free software update for the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module to resolve the issue. Owners were notified starting March 1, 2024.

Risk

If your brake lights turn on without warning or intent, following drivers may become confused or misinterpret your actions. This creates an unpredictable situation on the road and significantly increases the risk of a rear-end collision.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your motorcycle is one of the affected models: 2020-2022 Challenger (Dark Horse, Limited, Elite, Icon, JD Limited), 2019-2022 FTR 1200 (Rally, S, R Carbon), or 2022 Pursuit (Dark Horse, Limited, Premium, Icon).
  2. Locate your vehicle's recall status by contacting Indian Motorcycle customer service at 1-877-204-3697 and referencing recall number I-24-03.
  3. Schedule a service appointment with an authorized Indian Motorcycle dealer for a free software update to your ABS module.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
