Summary

BMC-USA has recalled about 1,300 Stromer ST1 pedal-assist electric bicycles because the front fork can break during use. The recall includes 2013 models M33 Elite and P48 Platinum in black, red, and white. There has been one reported incident of a fork breaking, which caused the rider to suffer minor scrapes and bruises. Owners should immediately stop riding these bicycles and contact an authorized dealer for a free replacement fork and professional installation.

Risk

The bicycle's front fork can fracture or snap while being ridden, causing the rider to lose control and crash. This defect poses a significant risk of falls and impact injuries.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop riding your 2013 Stromer ST1 electric bicycle until you can confirm if it is part of this recall.
  2. Check the bottom of the rear fork for an etched serial number. The recall affects bicycles with fork serial numbers starting with: ST1S2F, ST1S2G, ST1S2H, ST1S2I, ST1S2J, ST1S3A, ST1S3B, ST1S3C, ST1S3D, or ST1S3E.
  3. Identify your bicycle by looking for 'Stromer' printed on the top tube, seat, and chain guard. These bikes feature a motor on the rear hub and a three-button LCD display on the handlebars.
  4. If your serial number matches the affected list, contact an authorized Stromer dealer to schedule a free replacement and installation of a new fork.
  5. For more information or help finding a dealer, contact BMC-USA at 800-819-4262 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email andrew.gelles@bmc-switzerland.com, or visit www.stromer.ch and click on 'Fork Recall'.
