Summary

Daimler Vans USA is recalling approximately 52,993 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter VS30 vehicles from the 2019-2020 model years. The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) blower motor circuit is inadequate, which can cause the wiring harness to overheat during use. Owners are urged to only use the front blower in manual mode and avoid maximum or extreme temperature settings until a free repair is performed.

Risk

A wiring harness that overheats can melt and ignite nearby components, significantly increasing the risk of a vehicle fire even while the engine is running.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle registration or door jamb sticker to see if you own a 2019-2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter VS30 or a 2019-2020 Freightliner Sprinter VS30.
  2. Immediately change your HVAC settings: only operate the front blower in manual mode (not automatic) whenever the engine is on.
  3. Do not use the maximum blower speed or the lowest/highest temperature settings until the vehicle has been repaired.
  4. Contact Daimler Vans USA (DVUSA) customer service at 1-877-762-8267 to schedule a free repair; refer to recall number 8297010.
  5. Take your vehicle to an authorized dealer who will relocate and replace the fuse and wiring harness at no cost to you.
  6. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
